back in the 50s, the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History did a promotion for their exhibit where you could write in and reserve a spot on one of the first missions to the moon, Mars, etc.  Wired posted a ton of the letters.  i expected them to be silly and cute, from school kids, like this one.  but if you click through you get a wonderful glimpse into the lives of everyday people who want to be a part of space travel.  it’s really breathtaking.
